My son took a tour today of the "money factory" as he said the workers called it. He was touring the federal printing and engraving center north of Ft. Worth, Texas. I asked him if he asked them what would happen if they just keep on printing money. He said he didn't ask.

What does this sentence mean? "Sad in a way that those who should prove that their views are better are the monetary nationalists (anyone in mind?) and the paper money advocates."

I disagree with this statement, "[money] was devised as an instrument for the protection of civil liberties against despotic inroads on the part of governments." Money occurred naturally as people realized the value of indirect exchange and through many transactions some media became more popular than others, and we refer to those media as "money". Honest money does protect us from despotic governments but the idea of money came about naturally.

Richard Ebeling posted a piece on Northwood University's blog site, "In Defense of Capitalism & Human Progress," on, 'The Hubris of the Central Banker and the Ghosts of Deflation Past.'
 <a href="http://defenseofcapitalism.blogspot.com/2010/07/hubris-of-central-bankers-and-ghosts-of.html" rel="nofollow">http://defenseofcapitalism.blogspot.com/2010/07/h...</a>

He explains the different meanings of "deflation" and their impact on the market under the headings of:

(a) Supply-Side Deflation
(b) Price-Wage Rigidity Deflation
(c) Monetary Deflation

He then discusses what some central bankers such as Ben Bernanke mean by "deflation" and why their cures for this supposed "problem" can be a source of even more instability, imbalance and distortion of market and price relationships.

I think it might be of interest for this debate.
